On Drawing is a research project that aims at establishing a connection between drawing and thinking, in the realms of arts and science. It is based on the video 'On Drawing', filmed with Mina Pegourie, the cleaner of an artist-in-residence that Mendes attended, in France, in 2014. Mina Pegourie is a Moroccan woman who has been living in France since the age of 12 years old. Since she is unable to read or to write, she makes drawings to navigate in her everyday life. As a consequenece of having initiated this research project, Mendes created the performance/lecture/workshop 'On Drawing', the durational performances Drawing, Drawing I and Drawing II, and other works on paper.
Project Supported using public funding by Arts Council England and Artist Bursary 2018, a-n (artist information company).
